In the bustling world of photography and videography, capturing the perfect daylight scene can be a real game-changer. However, for those of us residing in places like the UK where natural daylight isn’t always readily available, achieving that clean, bright aesthetic can pose a challenge. Fortunately, I’ve recently stumbled upon a budget-friendly solution that allows me to recreate stunning daylight scenes in the comfort of my studio, regardless of the time or weather. Intrigued? Let me walk you through the setup.

The Setup
Living in the UK, I’ve often found myself struggling to harness the perfect natural light for my creative projects. That’s why I’ve turned to what I affectionately refer to as my “fake daylight setup.” Not only does this setup provide the clean, bright light I crave, but it’s also incredibly easy on the wallet.
To get started, you’ll need just a few key components:
- Diffusion Film: Believe it or not, a simple shower curtain serves as the perfect diffusion material for this setup.
- Suspension System: Something to hang the diffusion film on, such as two tripods with a rail between them.
- Light Source: While any flashlight will suffice, I prefer the versatility and power of the Godox AD400 Pro.
Setting up this makeshift daylight studio couldn’t be simpler. Hang the diffusion film in a way that allows you to shoot through its centre, creating a soft, natural-looking glow. With the film in place, position your light source (in my case, the Godox AD400 Pro) behind the diffusion material and fire away. It’s that easy!
But why stop there? For added depth and dimension, consider incorporating additional light sources or reflectors to fill in shadows and enhance your scene. Whether you opt for a VFlat or another flashlight, the possibilities are endless.
The Studio Setup
In conclusion, creating stunning daylight scenes in your studio doesn’t have to break the bank. With just a few affordable items and a bit of creativity, you can achieve professional-looking results that rival the real thing. So, why wait for the sun to cooperate when you can bring your vision to life on your own terms? Give this budget-friendly fake daylight set-up a try and prepare to be amazed by the endless possibilities it unlocks for your creative endeavours. Happy shooting!
